Following Family to the Outer Banks

Jaclynn’s journey to the Outer Banks began with family.

“My family moved here right after I graduated. It took a couple of years, but I finally followed them down here,” she says.

Once settled, she knew she wanted something more than a 9-to-5 job. Her parents’ entrepreneurial spirit inspired her to leap herself. “Being your own boss isn’t exactly easier,” Jaclynn admits, “but it’s much more fulfilling to me personally.”

Inspired by a Baking Partner

Behind every great baker is a mentor, and for Jaclynn, it was her grandmother.

“She was always my favorite baking partner and cheerleader. She passed away right before the bakery opened, but we keep a picture of her on the wall so she can always keep an eye on me.”

That legacy of love continues to shape everything she makes.

“We’re a unique, charming, and delicious bakery where you can grab a great cup of coffee, #getsconed, and enjoy the seating area outside the shop,” Jaclynn says. Every pastry is made with love, from scratch, every day by Jaclynn and her fiancé. “We bake the good food, and good people walk through the door to enjoy it every day. It’s truly a dream come true.”

Living and working on the Outer Banks has taught Jaclynn how to adapt.

“Living and working here means learning how this place runs, so that you can make the best of what market is available,” she explains.

It’s about patience, flexibility, and knowing the value of being a local small business.

Building Something Bigger

Jaclynn is self-taught, with a background in restaurant management. Her spark for the bakery stemmed from a desire for more than just a paycheck.

“I was tired of waking up every day and going to a job I didn’t love. I finally felt like I had the support system in place to make the leap.”

That leap turned into a bakery filled with locals and visitors alike.

Giving Back to the Community

OBX Wake & Take is committed to being more than a business—it’s a neighbor.

“We are involved with a number of community outreach and support services,” Jaclynn says. “We want to be a place that people in the community are proud to support.”

They also bake wholesale for local vendors and source local products whenever possible.

Fun Fact: A Bold Proposal

Jaclynn isn’t afraid to break tradition. At a Billy Strings concert in front of 10,000 people, she proposed to her fiancé—ring, stage lights, and all.

“I got down on one knee and everything,” she laughs.

Dreams for the Future

For Jaclynn, success looks like an organized, well-oiled bakery with lines out the door—plus the time and money to travel anywhere.

One dream she’s still chasing? Setting up a food truck at a permanent food truck venue in Dare County.

Beyond the Bakery

Music is a huge part of Jaclynn’s life. She and her fiancé travel for shows, combining adventures with “market research” at bakeries wherever they go. “I’m always on the lookout for new flavors, which can be found just about anywhere!” she says.

Jaclynn wants residents and visitors to know that every scone, muffin, and pastry represents countless hours of work.

“It’s truly a labor of love, and it takes a lot just to be open, let alone profitable.”
